My abstract art reflects the spontaneous yet intentional way I approach, aiming to evoke emotion through color and form. I find harmony and balance through the contrast of elements such as color, shapes, and values. My technique, rooted in my graphic arts background, engages both the right and left hemispheres of my brain, resulting in art that feels balanced. Influenced by a neurological condition called spacial sequential synesthesia, my work is a reflection of the patterns and spaces between colors, creating layers of mystery accented by cryptic marks. In my art, there is no specific subject matter- it is purely abstract or nonobjective, allowing viewers to interpret and connect with the work in their own way.

About

Penny Rodrick is a mixed-media artist and abstract painter.

Her artistic journey began in Northern California, where she studied art history and design in college. After working as a graphic artist and exploring textile arts and mixed-media construction, she faced a devastating setback when a wildfire destroyed her home and studio, along with a significant portion of her work. Despite this, she persevered and continued to create, eventually rebuilding her life and studio.

Today Penny continues to create captivating art from her home studio in Nevada City CA. After many years of mixed media construction her exploration into abstract painting has been exciting, challenging and a breath of fresh air.
